Eligibility & Required Materials

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or its equivalent.  
  • Completed at least a full academic year (2 semesters) or 24 credit hours at home institution, prior to semester at Pitt.  
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency for non-native English language speakers. See the section below for more details.  
  • Nomination by home institution (exchange students only)

 

Minimum English Language Requirements

International students intending to study at Pitt as either an exchange or guest student must provide proof of English language proficiency.  Native English speakers are defined as students, who have attended high school in the countries listed on the TOELF-exempt Countries list.  

  • IELTS Band Score 6.5
  • TOELF iBT 80
  • TOELF pBT 550
  • TOELF computer-based 213

Entering international students scoring below 100 on the TOELF iBT and 7.0 on the IELTS Band score will be required to take the English Language Proficiency Test upon arrival.  The schedule of the test is updated each semester here.  Students interested in taking ESL courses must take the proficiency test to assess their abilities towards the courses.  

 

Required Materials

In order to apply to Pitt as either an undergraduate international exchange or guest student, applicants must submit the following items electronically through the application system, in order to have a complete application.

  • Online Application Form.
  • Passport. Scan a copy of your official passport information. Note that your passport should be valid for at least six months after your departure from Pitt when your visit ends. Students who are applying for a new passport at the time of application should notify Pitt of this within the application.
  • English Language Requirements. A scanned copy of the official TOEFL/IELTS scores are accepted. 
  • Transcripts. A scanned copy of the official transcript from your home institution, with your either your institution’s seal or logo.
